With terrific access to the Gulf of Mexico, a long history of soul food influences, and plenty of arable land, it should be no surprise that students from all over the country flock to the numerous cooking schools scattered throughout the beautiful state of Alabama.

What Type of Chef Education Will You Receive?

Although cooking schools in Alabama obviously excel in seafood and soul food, these two areas will not necessarily represent the bulk of your chef education. Students attend Alabama cooking schools to master Asian fusion, French pastries, vegan and vegetarian dishes, and countless other delicious cooking styles. You’ll probably also dabble in a number of areas that you probably didn’t know even existed. That’s because most cooking schools want to provide you with a comprehensive chef education that will allow you to work in a variety of different culinary environments (5 star restaurants, catered functions, cruise ships, etc). The more versatile your portfolio and background, the more places you’ll be able to work.

Making the Most of Your Chef Education

Many of the better cooking schools in Alabama have extensive alumni networks set up to assist recent graduates with finding employment. This is quite fortunate, because although the U.S. Department of Labor predicts fairly favorable growth for the larger cooking industry, it is quick to point out that competition for many of the better paying jobs can be quite fierce. As with any other industry, the more people you know, the farther and faster you’ll be able to excel. So take the time to develop contacts with your peers, recent grads, and the career offices while you are in the midst of pursuing your chef education.
