If you’ve ever been to Pasadena, California, you probably already know that this beautiful city packs in an impressive number of restaurants given its relatively small size. Who staffs these excellent five-star restaurants? One might think that chefs are predominantly recruited from culinary colleges in distant parts of the world, but you might be surprised to know that many of the chefs are actually graduates of local culinary arts schools.

Local Culinary Colleges versus Foreign Culinary Colleges

Why recruit from abroad when there is such an excellent pool of candidates only a few miles away? This is the general reasoning that many restaurants in Pasadena follow. Managers realize that the culinary arts schools in Pasadena have some of the strongest programs in the country. They have excellent facilities, excellent instructors, access to fresh ingredients (many of which are grown quite close to Pasadena), and strong alumni networks: graduates of local culinary colleges often stay closely connected well after their academic days are over.

Pasadena, California Is a Great Place to Live

Although you should ultimately attend culinary arts schools because of the strength of their programs, it’s good to know that Pasadena is a wonderful place to live. Pasadena has a relatively warm and pleasant environment, making it easier to sample a wider range of fresh ingredients. Vegetables, fruits, and grains are in season much longer in California than they are in areas where cold weather and overcast skies are the norm. If you want to study at culinary arts schools in a city that offers quality programs and great weather, consider studying in Pasadena.
