Culinary Schools: Iowa

Iowa is corn and corn is Iowa. The state has produced so much of the important food staple that the governor recently removed the normal weight limits for trucks hauling grain on state roads. When you attend an Iowa culinary school you'll be living in the heartland of America. The state, between the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, was part of the Louisiana Purchase that Thomas Jefferson made from France. You'll drive past miles of beautiful fields that are bursting with corn and other symbols of plenty. Some of Iowa's farms seem to come from movie sets, but they are authentic and hard working real farms. Of course, you'll want to see some real movie sets. The Bridges of Madison County and Field of Dreams were both filmed in Iowa. Other sites worth seeing include one of the first intentional communities in the country, the famous Amana colony.

There is no such thing as typical Iowa cuisine. Of course, there are dozens of recipes for corn and you'll probably learn many of them in your Iowa culinary school classes. Like most hard working farm people, Iowans appreciate meat and potatoes. However, they also appreciate good tasting recipes that break that mold.
