Culinary Schools: New Jersey

New Jersey culinary school students find themselves in a large, sprawling, East Coast state. In fact, parts of the state are so tightly woven into the New York metropolitan area that you can't tell where one state leaves off and the other begins. Another part of the state blends gently into parts of Pennsylvania. This means you can expect to find everything from packed inner cities to rolling farmland. This complex mixture give students at New Jersey culinary schools a lot of gastronomic influences to deal with. The cities in the metropolitan area are filled with people from all over the world. The large African American population brought southern cooking styles with them and has maintained those traditions through many generations. Downstate, the Amish influence has found its way into the culinary style. There are cabbage dishes and pork dishes, scrapple, sausages and sauerkraut in the Pennsylvania Dutch, which is to say the German and Austrian tradition.

Another effect of New Jersey's combination of styles and landscapes is that, as a student there, you'll never run out of things to do. You can hike in the countryside, swim in the ocean, or go to Atlantic City, the Las Vegas of the East Coast.
